Why does cryonics cost so much?

Cryopreservation involves multiple phases and associated costs. These costs vary based on the type of preservation, location, logistical factors, and the level of standby support required. At Tomorrow.bio, the total cost for whole-body cryopreservation is €200,000.

Key cost components

The total cost can be broken into major categories:

  • Standby & Initial Stabilisation (~ €30,000 to €100,000)
This covers the deployment of a standby medical team, available 24/7, ready to respond at the time of legal death. It includes rapid cooling, cardiopulmonary support and early pharmacological stabilisation.
  • Transportation & Logistics (~ €30,000 to €80,000)
This covers the transport of the patient and medical team, possibly across countries, and the logistics of bringing the patient to the preservation facility under controlled conditions.
  • Long-Term Storage (~ €40,000 to €120,000)
After vitrification and cooling to cryogenic temperatures (such as liquid nitrogen temperature), the patient must be stored indefinitely under secure conditions. Maintenance, liquid nitrogen supply, monitoring and facility overhead are included in this cost range.

Funding & membership

At Tomorrow.bio the membership fee is €50 per month and most people funds the cryopreservation cost via a term life insurance policy, existing policy, savings or other funding method.

‍

Storage duration

Once the preservation funding is established, the funds are managed so that the preserved state can be maintained essentially indefinitely. The maintenance fund is invested conservatively to generate returns that cover long-term upkeep.
